Mahdiyah was born and raised in Ireland, with both of her parents coming from ethnic minorities, Indian and Kenyan. She is one of four children, two whom are disabled, and she lives in Coolock, which is a very disadvantaged area in Dublin. From a young age, sports have always helped her push herself beyond her abilities and have been her escape to keep off the streets and focus on training.
Mahdiyah has participated in 2 Erasmus + programs, which were aimed at using sport as a tool for social inclusion, and has been involved with the Special Olympics as an Accreditation Officer. She is also a spokesperson for the Hijabs & Hat-Tricks program, which encourages young Muslim women to engage with their local community and play sports.
